Belles by Jen Calonita
Isabelle has grown up on the boardwalk, with a grandmother who has become more forgetful. Life isn’t easy but it’s the best Isabelle can imagine. She is on the school swim team, helps out at the community center, has a great group of friends and is living life, all at once her life changes.
Without Isabelle’s knowledge, her grandmother has made a plan for Isabelle once her grandmother could no longer care for her. When Isabelle gets home from school, she is shocked to find her social worker there telling her that Grandma is moving to an assisted living facility and Isabelle is moving in with family…that she never even knew existed.
All of this would be a shock to anyone but when Isabelle realizes her mother’s long-lost cousin is a famous wealthy politician, her life changes in ways she never imagined.
I listened to this audiobook.
I enjoyed this book. Isabelle had a big adjustment going from taking care of herself to living in a mansion. She was a strong character who did what she needed to. Her cousin, Mirabelle, made me so made when she didn’t help Isabelle with the transition to the new school. Overall, this book moved along and was an easy read (or listen). I’m looking forward to reading book #2 in the series.
