Calling Me Home by Julie Kibler
Dorrie has been cutting 89-year old Isabelle’s hair for quite awhile. They have actually become friends instead of just client and hairdresser. Even though they are friends, Dorrie is shocked when Isabelle asks her to drive her across the country…to a funeral. Without many details, Dorrie agrees to this cross-country adventure, wondering what will be at the end.
Throughout their journey, you not only learn about the trouble Dorrie is leaving behind, but you also learn about the relationships that have brought Isabelle to travel across the country for this funeral.
This book was a book club selection.
Chapters alternate between the present and the past, this took a little while to get the hang of. The book was interesting but I wasn’t compelled to sit down and read it. At one point, I wasn’t sure I wanted to finish it because I have so many other books on my “to-read” list. At some point around the half-way mark, that all changed. Suddenly, I had to find out what happened in Isabelle’s life and who’s funeral were they headed to? This is a must read!
