All the Bright Places

all the bright placesBook Summary:

Theodore is fascinated with death and thinks about ways to end his life all the time.  He has a lot going on.

Violet is struggling with the recent death of her sister and is just existing and counting down the days until she can move away from the memories and the pain.

Theodore and Violet meet when they are both on the roof of the school, contemplating endings it all.  When they are paired up for a classroom assignment, their friendship blossoms.

My Thoughts:

I was excited to read this book.  When I read the reviews, they would list books that were similar to All the Bright Places.  I loved most of the books they mentioned so I just knew I would love this book.

I didn’t.

I can’t really put my finger on why I didn’t like the book.  I didn’t find myself connecting with the characters which meant I didn’t really care where their stories went.  I had to force myself to read it and, let’s be honest, I skimmed a lot of it.

I might pick this up later and give it another try, but for now, I’m moving on.
